Know your headache
Not every headache is the same headache
Where the pain sits, how it feels and what sets it off tells you which headache you are dealing with. Read the map below before you reach for anything.

Vataja Shirashoola

Both sides. A tight band across the forehead, temples and back of the head.
Feels
Dull, steady pressure. Squeezing rather than throbbing. Mild to moderate.

30 minutes to several days.
Zeroshool is applied at: temples, forehead line and the base of the skull.
Migraine
Ardhavabhedaka

Throbbing or pulsing. Moderate to severe. Worse when you move.

Sinus headache
Kaphaja Shirashoola

Across the cheeks, bridge of the nose and behind the brow. Both sides usually.
Feels
Heavy, full pressure. Worse when you bend forward or lie down
Triggers
Blocked nose, thick discharge, face tenderness. Often follows a cold.

Red zone | See a doctor
Cluster headache
Rare. Roughly 1 in 1,000 people.
Where
Always one side. Behind or around one eye, sometimes spreading to the temple.
Feels
Severe, piercing, burning. People cannot sit still with it. Often wakes them from sleep.
With it
On the painful side only: watering or red eye, drooping lid, blocked or running nostril, sweating on the face.
Pattern
15 minutes to 3 hours per attack, striking at about the same time each day, in bouts that run for weeks or months.
This one is not a home remedy headache
Cluster headache needs a doctor’s diagnosis and prescription treatment. An oil is comfort at best and it must never replace medical care. If this pattern sounds like yours, please book a consultation before you try anything else.
